I used to write my own adventure games like this on my TRS-80. They weren't very big or complex but it was still fun to do.

Trash 80 for the epic “in before you”

Nice. I tried to make a couple, but my lack of creativity was hindering me.

I used to read a lot of those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books at the time. Those were a big inspiration.

Those were fun books. I read the crap out of UFO 54-40.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

Wait, that is adventure not zork.

Indeed it is. But it is pitch dark, you're likely to be eaten by a grue.

I loved all of them.

I only had the first one...by the time I had disposable income, they were long out of print. I should grab II and III from one of the inform archives and play them.

There are a few Telnet Siri type adventures I log onto on occasion.

Siri? What the fuck auto correct is that?

Telnet ZORK type games.

Just down the road is a small white house neatly maintained for years but vacant. I've wanted to put a leaflet in the mailbox nearly every time I go by.

As a side note, there exists an emulator for old adventure games called ScummVM which also acts like a library for your collection, all playable on modern systems with quality of life features like save states, rebinds and such. One of my favorite projects there is the original Might and Magic 1 which was remade on World of Xeen engine, giving it new shiny interface, lots of QoL, music, and graphical lift up - night and day compared to the original DOS release, and better than NES version as it's not cut and is much faster.

SCUMM is a great project. Finally got to play Sam and Max Hit The Road on that years after it was released.
