From the post:

>The new Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here. Next month, eager fans will finally be able to get their hands on the highly anticipated follow-up to the wildly popular hybrid console. But before you line up (or frantically refresh your browser for a preorder), you might want to read the fine print, because Nintendo might be able to kill your console.

Not surprising. I've been waiting for licensing on their devices so unless you pay yearly you can use the unit. Already common in business IT appliances like routers or software.

I never could understand the problem with hardware modifications. I bought the damn thing, why can't I mod it?

I agree but their view is that you never owned it. You owned a license to use it.

I feel like that is complete bullshit. I have modded basically any console I have ever owned either via hardware mods or software. If you can't modify it, you don't own it.
