I'm more of a filthy casul, so I've been more into the Forza Horizon series lately. Played through FH4 last year, and FH5 the year prior. Might give the 3rd one a go once I manage to get a gamepass trial for free or for a dollar again.

The new Forza looks like a really fun driving game with a lot to do. The last driving game I played was Gran Turismo 4 when I broke my ankle/leg/foot and was layed up for three months. Sims are great if you have real world experience or grind to get good but for most people that come into it they expect all the game elements and things to accomplish and end up quitting. That was the joke of the post, you can never beat the game.

im gonna get laughed at but i have multiple years of Codemasters F1 games, last one i bought was 2021... i think.... still playing it.

Sadly they now sold out to EA so thats the end of that, and besides that F1 has gone to fucking shit the last couple of years so i no longer have any interest in buying any more of that. Im happy that the version ive got finally lets you do your own team but i dont give a single solitary fuck about online racing so i havent touched any of the multiplayer shit.

What i always wanted to see was some kind of mod or app where it let you play the next season with your last seasons character so instead of starting every single season of it it as 'Welcome rookie driver' you could actually play on depending on where you finished your last game, the current alternative is doing multiple seasons in the same game with exactly the same cars and drivers for 'years' - in effect you only really get one play through out of it before youve done it all.

Yeah, code masters selling out killed F1 and rally games in one fell swoop. At least for rally there is still Richard Burns rally in many forms but F1 is screwed.

Highly recommend if you like rally.

I need to play some racing sims again. Last time I did was Need for Speed Underground. The first one...

Assetto Corsa is amazing with the modding scene. Shtoko Revival Project is a prime example, a project that is making all the expressways and loops in Tokyo using photos/ satalite/ laser scanning/ and boots on the ground taking pictures of random signs etc etc. The mod is so big and detailed that bugs had to be fixed in the physics engine as well as a custom multiplayer server written to handle the size. When you ship the tools to make the sim/game with purchase the community has a field day.

Spent three hours on the Gaya factory server in Japan drifting Hyato touge with 29 other people yesterday, Stupid amounts of fun. Video of the road

Bud, i'm retarded . Is that the game graphics ??. Looks mint if it is.

Haven't played it, did most of the need for speeds and Gran turismo up until about GT5. Might have to go check out steam see if they have it.

Yeah, it looks amazing. It has been totally reworked with shaders/weather system/ dynamic shadows etc etc. It actually looks better that that video now since there have been a bunch of updates to Custom shaders patch and the Pure (the weather system)..

it is like 10 bucks on steam, get the Japanese dlc along with it as most mods use those cars as a baseline. Get Custom shaders patch is included with content manger, you also need for the night/day cycle and better weather graphics. Bonus link to a spreadsheet with all the good shit

Ive got Assetto Corsa, its not a bad game.

For a while a couple of years back i was able to use Riftcat to hook Samsung VR up to my old laptop and play it full VR.

Straight up, one of the coolest things to do with that shit was running a few laps around Spa-Francorchamps, when you hit the bottom of Radillion your stomach would drop the fuck out and your body felt like you were actually there, it was pretty epic.

Sadly Samsung VR got shitcanned so now youre stuck with fucking retardedly expensive high end gaming PCs and retardedly expensive high end VR gear, its intentional, and its not fucking worth the price you have to pay for that shit.

How is this vs project cars?

Physics are better, way more content. I never liked the PC physics, I had to try and adapt to the weird floaty understeer. In AC they mostly drive like you would expect. The content in terms of mods makes it the clear winner, my directory is over 160GB of cars and tracks/roads and I haven't even scratched the surface.

Some of the third party car models you can get are sketchy as fuck. Ive got a 1985 Formula 1 mod which looks pretty and sounds great but whoever put it together is a fucking retard and the cars are completely undriveable.

With everything there is a lot of garbage, I don't really know about F1 car mods as I like street cars. There are a bunch of historical car packs for F1 and GT class cars that are top tier. has a bunch of them.

I can't play racing games for very long. A few races of a few laps are okay. After that I can't take it anymore. Put it up, and break out the third person shooters.

What is a good shooter? I got the last two COD titles and they are both unplayable dog shit.

ARMA 3 for best simulation and widest variety via mods. Shit gets super involved, and some of it can be absurdly overcomplicated in order to get realism- like you get shot in the leg, your leg's broken, you can't walk, someone has to carry you until your wound is treated, and now you walk with a limp. This realism kind of makes you play safer, closer to what you might actually try to fight like, since there are serious consequences to all your actions- you don't just hide behind something till the red goes away, then you're back in the fight.

"Squad" for a more arcadey, less realistic style shooter that's still leagues better than CoD.

I want to love Arma 3 but again im not a multiplayer guy, the AI is.... sketchy at times, and im finding it hard to find a decent standalone single player campaign that doesnt want to try and charge me almost as much as Arma itself.

I have had tons of fun with it dont get me wrong, id end up spawing a bunch of AI guys and tanks and rolling around in convoy and directing battles and shit. Its awesome when it all works properly but the number of times ive had the AI just flat out spaz out and break kills immersion.
