Artificial scarcity = you don't actually own any value, its just an Illusion of value.

Basically, you're a hostage if you want to keep any of your financial value in their assets.

CCG's are basically the diamond business.

Eventually its just a shiny rock. And as shiny rocks become more common, their value decreases dramatically.

Don't ask me how much money I've wasted over the years on MtG. I played 3 different times throughout my childhood and into adult years. Last set I bought cards in was Khans of Tarkir.

The article is spot on that people would rather play the extended formats. They are more fun, and keeping up with Standard is how you waste a fortune on cards that won't be valuable once they "cycle" out.
