I have a low-mid range LG FHD 75Hz IPS ultrawide that I traded for a nice Asus TUF 4k 28" 144Hz monitor. My 3060 doesn't have enough power for 4k but for FHD it is a beast. I can run any game ever made at 1080p ultra settings 75Hz easy. I was concerned about going from 4k to 1080p, especially on a bigger monitor. As it turns out its fine and I don't notice the difference at all in game. This LG actually has better color, I think its a better panel.

Now on to the ultrawide part.

Its really cool for gaming, the FOV increase is so neat. Its a big difference and games look really good in 21:9 and I have yet to find a game that doesn't support it. Even old games support ultrawide. If I had to choose between 28" 4k at 144Hz or 1080p at 75Hz ultrawide I would easily choose ultrawide.

I like it.

I have a wide. Not ultra but it was great. Then I went to full wall projection.

Fucking unbelievable. Only 1080p but unbelievable.

You live the game.

Full wall projection is awesome, just as immersive as vr but less cumbersome than a headset. Playing split screen with the 3d glasses that sync with the projector is insane.

Doesn't surrounding yourself with really nice gaming gear create a huge incentive to over indulge in time wasting activities?

What impact do you think it will have on achieving your goals?

I'm a middle age man who is in stupid good shape and I only game maybe 1 hour per day if that. It will have the impact of giving me a fun hobby.

Ultrawide monitor is awesome, but game support is not quite there yet. On a lot of games either the FOV is wrong when using 21:9 or it's not supported at all. For some games you'll need third party tools to fix the ratio and FOV.

All the games I've tried support it so far. Even a really old brothers in arms helps Highway from around 2008. How do the 3rd part fixes work? How do I use one if I need it?

It's a separate program that hooks into your game's exe that fixes the ratio and allow you to adjust the FOV on the fly.

1080p is still best since 24" or so is about optimal for competitive gaming and at that size you don't need higher resolution it just eats up gpu power with little benefit. I use 2 240hz 1080p monitors

Probably for twitch games. For strategy I like the additional resolution to get more onscreen

Even at 34" 1080p looks great.

Sure. This one https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/lg-34wk650-ultra-wide-monitor,5713-2.html The picture quality on it is far better than it should be. I'm very happy with it.

I have a silly 8 monitor setup. Best 1080p 20-22" monitor for 8-monitor use?

I'm not sure but I still think 1080p is great for both TV and PC.
