A recent comment from about achievements got me thinking. I think I have only gotten all of the achievements in a hand full of games and only because they were played non-stop while hanging out on a couch with friends. Two of the games I know were Burnout 3: Takedown and Sneak King (because it was hilarious).

In single player, achievements are just there to give players who should have stopped playing a long time ago something to do. In multiplayer, people play for ages on end anyways. It also gives them something to do.

They also provide fake clout. Xbox, they added to the gamer score and steam dies the same I think. Basically fake internet points.
