She should put her damn phone away for the game. Poor form.

She's a Twitch streamer. The video was made for her channel.

the botez sisters do stream chess on twitch. but they are not well known for actually being good.

also as you get older you dont get better at chess so age is kindof irrelevant.

he says he is rated 2300 on league chess and if i remember right one of the sisters is rated 1800 and the other is 1600 so title should be

player with higher rating beats player with lower rating. 2300 is basiclly an international master. this kid is in the top 500 players of the USA

just noticed the ABSOLUTE GOBLIN in the black jacket sitting to her right

My jewdar was beeping off the charts during this video. So much misbegotten semitic trash in that room, but that one stands out as a perfect representation of the "goblin phenokike".

guy i work with used to be big into online chess & says a lot of people just input your moves into another copy of the game playing against a computer and play back the computer's moves with you

streaming is one way to prove you're legit i suppose

[–] 1 pt

supposedly there is anti botting software now. if a player that is normally shitty suddenly finds the best possible move 10 moves in a row its an easy ban

I was under the impression they are higher than that. They are no grandmasters but I thought they were at least decent like 2000 ELO or so.

Judit Polgar at her peak was rated above 2700 and rank 8 in the world which is very respectable. But it shows how poor females are at chess if the best ever barely cracked the top 10.

i just looked it up the girl playing is andrea botez with a rating of 1676

her sister is much better at 2090

the ratings also have inflated a little bit. Hikaru is rated 2736 but he is only rank 21 in the world. his rapid and blitz rating is 2850

Women cannot compete with men at chess anymore than they can at physical sports

"Professional chess streamer" being the key here. Botez is FIDE rated 1600 something, I could beat her too as could any decent male chess player. The older sister is better.

Maybe its just me, but I've always seen people that get extremely good at one thing to be slightly autistic.

How can you play a single game for thousands of hours without getting tired of it? To me its like watching the same movie over and over again. Even if its your favorite movie, eventually you will get bored of it.

Imagine a movie that has an infinite amount of different starts and ends.

[–] 1 pt

I'd still get tired of it, same way I get tired of other board games and also plenty of video games. Theres no more sense of excitement or wonder.

Different brains, different interests.

chess doesn't have an infinite set though, that's what IBM's "deep blue" was doing: it calculated the entire tree of all possible games and chose the winning paths

[–] 1 pt

I know, but to the average human mind, it sure does look like infinite.

[–] 1 pt

Bullshit. Deep blue lost 2 of 6 games in the kasporov (who is not the world's greatest chess player) rematch and 3 of 6 games in their initial series.

The possible combinations are near infinite and the AI must assign a point value to each move and run through 20-30 move combinations, depending on the time given for each move, and then selects the best move based on the points system it uses. Human players can, and often do, come up with unpredicted moves which then throw the AI off making what were high scoring moves before the human's unpredictable moves into blunders that ultimately lose the game.

Even today's best AI computers still often succumb to the creativity of the world's best chess players.

What keeps one going is the competitive nature of it. Beating your opponent completely in front of everyone is extremely gratifying, and the feeling you get when you know you can still greatly improve is a big part of it.

It's also just an inherently social event. Chess, Poker, Dominoes are really just you interacting with new people and their unique style of play and just talking with them like human beings. To call a board game like chess repetitive is like saying basic conversations with your fellow man are boring. They're not, every new opponent is different.

You just can't compare board game players to some loser video game speedrunner that plays the same level; 13,000 in a row in some dark room without getting bored or burnt out ever.

I've been getting annihilated. I'm like a 1290 now and down from 1365. I think I am mentally preoccupied with my investment losses.

She couldn't shut up. It's no wonder she lost her queen on a terrible blunder... you can't focus talking your ass off for the crowd.

She played a kid. Even if she won nobody would be clapping for her. What do you want her to do? Crush the kid in chess, and clap?

[–] 2 pts

Why wouldn't you take a dive if it results in free publicity and your job is to wear tight tops and play chess for viewers.

[–] 1 pt

She knows when to sacrifice a pawn.

Chess knows no age. I played in tournaments as a late teenager. In every ratings groups there are kids playing every other age...20s 30s 40s up through 70s. You are playing to win. These kids understand the game... they aren't going to cry if you beat them and they aren't going to gloat if they beat you.

She should have done her best to crush him to save face.

Keep in mind women are the lesser sex even in Chess. The highest rated woman, Yu Hifan, can't even compare to the top 10 rated men.

[–] 0 pt

Yes actually, considering her reputation is on the line.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

Yes, beat the kid in chess by shutting the fuck up and paying attention.

Whoever is white always wins. Chess sucks.
