To tie people up and starting fight clubs (make people fight for their lives). Like day Z it makes for interesting game play.
Most of those were shitty suggestions. No one wants a multi bluray disc game. Fully detailed NPC lives has been done in Bethesda games but is mostly inconsequential and not something many players even notice. Gear getting worn out is also nothing special, just an annoyance in my opinion.
