What no one seems to understand is that when you have many options they divide the attention amongst them so even if 99% of people choose other options, but each choosing different other options the 1% who all chose the base model to just start playing end up with the most common character.

I only brought it up because you wrote "What no one seems to understand." But yeah, it makes no sense, it's a meaningless experiment, and they are acting as if it means that everything else was 'untouched'.
