The original dark souls game was 1 colossal map that could be walked to anywhere from practically anywhere. Enemies were rendered much further away than anything in Witcher, yet they were able to make characters more responsive than a drunken retard, unlike WB could do with Witcher.
And that game was last gen consoles. There is no excuse beyond garbage programming that was left at "good enough" for witchers controls to be as bad as they are.
You're misremembering. There are 16 zones. And the game isn't that big.
