Does anyone remember this game on either ps1, dreamcast, or ps2 that had a hexagonal playing field that had sprites on opposite sides, that when they would meet you would battle in real time, flying around in a 3d map? For the life of me i cannot remember.

No it wasn't, your thinking of the other one. He means the one where, y'know, it's got one of those, umm, well, y'know, the other thing in it.
