It's telling that this dynamic has dissipated from popular fiction of all kinds. Faith is no longer a concept that society entertains, even in fantasy.

Idk, I think it's still a fundamental aspect of table top gaming like DND and Pathfinder. And many modern fantasy novels have a faith component, although it's rarely monotheism.
