Spoilers, but I'm not tagging 50% of the following paragraph.
Not really. The cannon ending is that the evangelical faith leader was right all along. The sequel delves into that further. The objection characters have to the cult in the first one is the kidnapping and conversions using an opiate flower as well as forced displacement from their land. In the sequel the descendants of the cult are locked on a compound in harmony with nature hunting with bows and arrows, fighting tyranny of the local gang which they no longer play the role of and avoiding contact with anyone else. The main character of 5 becomes a silent companion in New Dawn and redeems themselves before God by working with the evangelical faith leader. The black preacher companion is not hostile to this group that was formerly 'muh bad guys' indicating the game is not suggesting that conventional faith and evangelical faith were forever misaligned and that the actions of the 'cult' in the first one were justified on a higher morality where the better elements of humanity need to be saved by any means possible.
Honestly kind of based and red pilled if you choose to look at it this way.
For fear of spoilers we haven’t read your comment. We will come back to it when we finish lol
