It gives you options, options you can mull over a bit without the old "claw-claw-bite-breathe" interrupting your train of thought. Also, while the breath attack of a dragon is magic, that's because it's a magical beast, so it's not a spell. You can make a spell that mimics it, but the dragon's breath is quasi-natural.

Indeed. Also, tossing it in a bag of holding might be a little tricky, because you're not getting that thing back out of there...

Spoke to someone who knows the lore a bit better than myself, and bags of holding can be left easily by any sentient thing inside. However, teleporting or tossing the fish into lava... pretty much an instant kill.
