Funny story, but DnD doesn’t work like that. The NPC clearly assumed the wizard was offering to create a sword, and genie rules don’t apply here.

Still, the wizard’s a clever bastard.

Bad fucking DM. Polymorph is only from beast to beast, not from beast to object unless the campaign has a race of living magic swords.

Couldn't be a magic sword, would only last for an hour, and would be Fort save, not will.

E: D&D absolutely works like that; don't fuck with high level wizards.

I guess that one would work.

Is that so? I’ve mostly played homebrew, so that’s news to me. In my games, the player can add animal parts to their body, like wings, horns, claws, etc. in addition to just morphing into an animal.

If you go by the rules, polymorph only allows transformation from animal to animal in toto, for a limited duration. Unwilling victims must save to resist.

But rules are meant to be broken, and the games I used to play had all kinds of house modifications as well.

Didn't realize that so many poaler bears played D&D.

D&D used to belong to the anti censorship no nonsense crowd.

And now it's being "diversified" by commies pushing their narrative agendas into a fantasy setting because that's the only setting where socialism works.

This sort of stuff is one of the reasons I still go to Plebbit anymore: /r/dndgreentext

There are so many amazing stories on that sub. Sir Bearington, Old Man Henderson, Edguardo and A Guy Called Squid, Los Tiburon, Krod the Angry Rogue, and I believe the All Guardsmen Party has posted there a couple of times as well. Sure, you can find them on the /tg/ archives, but it's easier to find good ones there.

Polymorph is how you survive an encounter with a dragon with only 4th level spells. Turn the dragon into a trout. Just avoid that cone-shaped area in front of the trout.

[–] 1 pt (edited )

1- breath attacks are magic, polymorph disables spells

2- doing that only works until you exceed the hp of the trout, then it changes back and any excess damage spills over into the dragon's life pool

Provided you didn't want to actually fight the trout-dragon, you could either take the treasure and go, or toss it in a bag of holding until it suffocated...

I'm going to have to try this next time I'm up against one with my trickster cleric.

It gives you options, options you can mull over a bit without the old "claw-claw-bite-breathe" interrupting your train of thought. Also, while the breath attack of a dragon is magic, that's because it's a magical beast, so it's not a spell. You can make a spell that mimics it, but the dragon's breath is quasi-natural.

Indeed. Also, tossing it in a bag of holding might be a little tricky, because you're not getting that thing back out of there...

Funny story, but DnD doesn’t work like that. Non-player characters are just part of the story, they don't roll will saves.

What's a "house save" ?

With a high roll a fun DM might let this happen.
