Oh look, a strong woman rescuing a hapless white male. That's so original.

Nah. Horizon isn't like that, at least the first one wasn't. I 100%'d the game and there's maybe one "girl power" kind of moment that is so tertiary most people probably haven't even seen it. I took a lot more issue with one of her main love interests being a nigger but thankfully you can shut him down pretty hard.

The main character is a mysterious orphan who was given to an outsider of the tribe. He teaches her literally everything, and ends up sacrificing himself defending her after she gets her ass beat. You find out later in the game that he actually self-exiled because he was too honorable to take a pass on breaking a tribal law, despite everyone being OK with it.

She's also not a "strong womyn" archetype. She is a bad ass, but the main thing that makes her special is her ability and familiarity with a piece of pre-apocalypse technology.

The game's main theme is about how technology has the capacity to be both infinitely helpful and infinitely destructive with a lot of commentary specifically about AI.

Horizons' culture from the original game seems to be centered around a matriarchal society - But surely you know post-apocalypse is in fashion, gaming wise?

Video games still look like video games. They haven't improved much since the end of the Xbox 360.

Gaming studios need to focus on better fundamentals, not more "ooh shiny". Bug prevention, efficient code, gameplay and story design, and better AI are needed. Studios are trying to compensate for lack of qualified programmers by spending too much money on graphics. In an era of graphics cards not improving much. Raising color saturation and adding more assets does not improve the game.

Ultimately the problem is a systematic one. The whole industry is unwilling to train programmers. Instead they pay way too much for "ninjas" and "gurus", try to farm out work to India, and then wonder why it costs so much and why they can't find good people. If the gaming industry had started paying enough interns enough money 15 years ago there would be plenty of qualified programmers. Game quality would be much better and costs would be lower.

It's especially frustrating to watch the big studios keep making these mistakes and at the same time pushing diversity for an even lower quality staff. If even one AAA studio had focused on training programmers and building a really solid engine we would be seeing some incredible games right now and that studio would be making out like bandits.

Wow good work, my dude. Has the feel of Doom about it.

All the devs know better than to work for a gaming company. Believe me we would love to write cool shit and not bank software or what have you but games companies pay like ass and work you like a dog. You have to be young, hungry and especially stupid (for a developer) to go work for a gaming company... and now with cancerous woke corporate culture there is no passion or creativity left to justify the pay cut and the workload.

I'd quit and go work for ID circa 1992 but that's not what gaming is anymore. It's just animating a feminist lecture from the corpo writers room and adding some watered down RPG mechanics to please the focus group. Dev's don't get to be creative anymore, they get to stress over implementing other people's shit. So why make a game when you can just make bank software?

I imagine the best stuff will always be at the indie level or crowd funded.

Eventually tools will progress to the point where those projects will have the same polish is today's AAA titles.

Also I haven't really been following Star Citizen the last few years but imagine it will be finished at some point.

[–] 1 pt

Star Citizen is just a cult at this point. The game will never be finished.

It's the same MBA mentality that infects all corporations these days. It's one of the primary reasons everything is getting worse in quality.

And they do.

Apart from the popular titles, there are tons of indie studios making games that focus on the gameplay and the fun aspect.

5 years ago.. There were no sides rollers. There haf been no side scrollers in ages.

What some call "Metroidvanias".

Now.. You got tons of options.

Celeste, Hollow Knight, Bloodstained, broforce, Little nightmares 1, 2, limbo, inside, blasphemous...

As someone who is a lot into Metroidvanias, I am no longer complaining.

And then, you got occasional good typical popular titles.

I am pretty sure GTA and Red dead redemption are great franchises

Depends on what you consider improvement. Try looking up PS3 vs PS5 graphics (I got lost in all them XBOX this and that edition bullshit) and you'll see the vast improvements over the years. IMO we're 75% the way to photo realism compared to Pong and the likes.

Nice video starts with a nog and a woman. I can say I am out.

[–] 2 pts

lol That's was the catch. When these cucks are pushing diversity through virtue signaling right at the beginning, you know what's coming next.

Nigger in the game. No thanks.

Niggers can buy it and play it then.

I've been playing Returnal on the ps5 the last few weeks and it's a pretty amazing game .(sifi horror) graphics are off the hook and the game play is like a side scroll but in 3d as the guys that made it have only made platform or side scroll games and this i their first open world 3d game. Every time you die its perma death and start again so it can be a bit frustrating at first but you only get better the more you play it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9rX8PkdXjg

[–] 1 pt

Wow, that game looks great! Definitively something I'll have to check out if I ever get the rig for it.

unfortunately it is a ps5 exclusive. Maybe it will release on pc at some stage though.

I like the dark atmosphere.

The aliens a like Edge of Tomorrow and the structures are a bit HR Giger inspired but yes it has tons of atmosphere and it really emerges you in the game.

Nigger getting aid: “they attacked our camp, they kneed on my neck for 9 minutes.”

Most games now are dogshit copypastas of other things.

They focus on raping gpus and 4k and looking pretty and ray tracing.

Things that never get fucking fixed : wild physics, coding errors, no demos, higher difficulty = more hp for them, you die faster. Why does everyone try to make things realistic when they don't need to be.

Crash badicoot is still more fun than 99% of stuff now.

Prince of Persia is still one of my favorite games. Sorry Metal Slug X 😂

Don't go back to basics, we just need better ideas.

I'm still waiting for a labyrinth style game where the walls move around and stuff hunts you down while you try to escape.

Or just implement some new feature like voip or messaging someone alerts enemies but hand signals don't.

Just fucking anything new and makes you remember a game for being smart.

Making doom again is pointless, at least turok rage wars had some really cool ideas for weapons.

[–] 0 pt

Well I'll add more as I go along once I got the basics down good. I feel like Games went downhill when they started to focus on story too much at the detriment of pure gameplay and realism in level design took away the cool fast gameplay maze levels brought. So I'm bringing those back and will indeed have maps transform and move a lot. Still working on the core functionalities now like AI.

Important to note.

This is NOT ACTUAL GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE.

Wait until the real thing comes out.

Dont fall for thst one again.

E3 used to be infested with videos of games that turned out to be entirely different eventually.

[–] 0 pt

"Combination of gameplay and pre-rendered footage" seems to indicate that there's gameplay involved.

Also the parts where it looks like a game being played instead of a pre-scripted sequence indicates the same. Seeing how those sequences is pretty identical to the gameplay from the first game I'd say you're wrong.

But what do I know, I just played the previous game 10 hours ago.

I remember this legend zelda footage that came out ages ago.

Some giant spider comes crashing though amd the fairy jumps towards thr spider and thst alone looks amazing and awesome.

That was ten years ago and Nintendo has yet to create something that looks nearly half as good as that video.

And it was not something mind blowing.. It was just the Fairy Jumping towards thr spider.

After I stopped playing video games, I realized how stagnating that hobby can be. You aren't improving anything about yourself, and accepting a pretend reward system like a baby sucking a pacifier.

The same desire you have to play would be helping you improve your real life skills and status in life if you just redirect it in a different way.

[–] 1 pt

I pretty much stopped playing when I started my own company, decades ago.

I still do from time to time (retro-gaming) though.
