Says you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love low poly geometry and creative architecture, and the latter isn't even a subjective opinion. So do many others; there is an entire genre of retro-esque shooters just to hit that niche.
Hell, the creativity of normal-mapping 2d weapon sprites to make them appear 3d with full lighting effects was groundbreaking- the technique had never been done before, and the result is incredible. That's a lot of creative effort; not some "sparkles on top of shit".
