I guess I mean more like how they tried to create a new world with all these new characters that I don’t give a crap about and aren’t relevant to the already existing Mario universe.
Woah, never thought I’d hear that from a fan of the series. That was a worry some of the devs had with Paper Mario as well, which is why they stopped adding new characters and lore in the later games.
Personally, I loved all the new content they added, and I thought Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was the greatest addition to the series. I’m kinda bummed that we’ll never get something like that ever again.
I did love the original Paper Mario but didn’t play any more of the papers. TTYD is hard to find for GameCube even though I do have one, it’s too expensive. Hopefully they’ll remaster it someday for Switch.

You’d be paying for the nostalgia, even though you never actually played it before. People love that game so much that it’s basically treated like gold.
Anybody who still owns a copy could reasonably expect someone to be interested in buying it off them for well over $500.
Here’s an eBay example over 1k (ebay.com)
Edit: thank god for emulation.
