Elite Dangerous
I've seen a lot of people mention this game in reviews for flight sticks. It seems to be very popular.
It's a game that had almost limitless potential because all the fundamental requirements are there. But for 7 straight years, the developer has made move after move to penalize every avenue of player engagement and emergent situations. They've fucked up every introduction, in totality, because they don't play or understand what they've developed. Carrier ships are one example, Engineers are another. The fact that a space flight game hasn't introduced a new ship in five years, and won't be in their new Odyssey DLC speaks to this.
Never-ending grind, zero depth, zero community engagement, perfect reliance on third party tools that without which the game would be literally unplayable. It's a fucking mess that could have been one of the stand out titles of the last decade.
Fuck Frontier Development and fuck Braben. That greedy son of a bitch felt it more important to break up his development team for a petting zoo game and a crap Jurassic Park title. Meanwhile, E:D keeps trudging onward.
Buy Arx!
I haven't found any MMOs interesting since they ruined UO. It seems like no one can get them right.
It's because everything is a service and creating greatness would cost more than developing a half dozen shit titles.
All about the ROI.
