I picked it up last week and have been spending a decent amount of time on it. I'm really enjoying it. Anyone else playing?

Was kind of considering getting a flight stick setup but idk, the xbox controller works decent enough I guess.

I'm playing on PC. 3800x, 2080S, 32 GB RAM. I also have Index VR, but mostly I've been playing on my 2k monitor. With having to use the keyboard for some inputs, it doesn't lend itself well to VR. That's kind of why I'm thinking of getting Thrustmaster HOTAS system with peddles. Then I could use the VR and not have to 'find' the keyboard.

Can't speak for Microsoft flight 2020, but as an Elite Dangerous player I can tell you that HOTAS is the only way to fly.

Elite Dangerous

I've seen a lot of people mention this game in reviews for flight sticks. It seems to be very popular.

It's a game that had almost limitless potential because all the fundamental requirements are there. But for 7 straight years, the developer has made move after move to penalize every avenue of player engagement and emergent situations. They've fucked up every introduction, in totality, because they don't play or understand what they've developed. Carrier ships are one example, Engineers are another. The fact that a space flight game hasn't introduced a new ship in five years, and won't be in their new Odyssey DLC speaks to this.

Never-ending grind, zero depth, zero community engagement, perfect reliance on third party tools that without which the game would be literally unplayable. It's a fucking mess that could have been one of the stand out titles of the last decade.

Fuck Frontier Development and fuck Braben. That greedy son of a bitch felt it more important to break up his development team for a petting zoo game and a crap Jurassic Park title. Meanwhile, E:D keeps trudging onward.

Buy Arx!

I haven't found any MMOs interesting since they ruined UO. It seems like no one can get them right.

Where the hell are you seeing a reasonably priced thrustmaster?

Microcenter by me has in stock for the same price as below.

I'm waiting for missions and story engagement before I get onboard. I don't have much time to dedicate to sims, but I still enjoy them as I can. I think it will eventually be a fairly robust title - beyond basic private and commercial flight simulation I mean.

Love it. Bought a yoke to improve the realisim for the cessna. Have an old flight stick i use for the jets. Rudder pedals will change your experience.

Rudder pedals will change your experience

FOR THE WORSE!!!

RUDDER touches of any type, for even 1% accidental press... CUT YOUR SPEED FROM DRAG and if in a flight formation... your plane will lag behind the others and never ever catch up again.

FUCK FLOOR RUDDER PEDALS!!!

Every shitty combat pilot I ever sufferred with in military bombing runs who lagged behind was always a retarded floor rudder owner.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER touch a rudder while traveling to a destination, only in a dog fight , or landing on a aircraft carrier in a cross wind or to chop speed.

Thanks for your reply however this is a thread about MSFS2020 which does not have combat. Best wishes, Boris

Yup. I've had the Hotas X for about 5 or 6 years now, and you can set up rudders on it if you don't want to spend the extra on pedals.

flightsim.to has loads of free custom airports, aircraft, and bush trips once you start getting bored of the basics.

I think my favourite 2 addons are:

  • Neofly - You get to fly delivery missions from airport to airport for "money" which you can then use to "buy" other airplanes to add to your fleet.

  • MFS AddOn Collector - I'd install it first. It lets you manage which planes/liverey/scenery you add for a flight.

That is cool there is place to get free mods. I was looking at the Microsoft market place and they really nickel and dime you to death for add-ons.

You'd recommend the Hotas X then? It seems reasonably priced.

It depends how serious you think you'll get about it. It's just my opinion, but I'd go fairly cheap right now, because the mid to high end hardware has jumped up in price a lot due to the release of msfs, and also "These trying and difficult times."TM

If you think you're going to be gung-ho about it, then go for the cool stuff.

That said, the hotas-x works as good as new, and is sufficient to map most flight functions to.
