Sounds like other issues are at play, but going SSD is something that is easy cheap (relatively) and - if (when) you upgrade your entire system it does not become trash. I have an M5 A97 1.0 sitting in a drawer here, by the way. Loved that board, real solid. Initially ran a 555 and then got a 955. Ran both at insane OC's with no problems. Would probably still be using it but knocked a capacitor off rearranging things and had to retire it around the time Bulldozers cam along and went with an open box Sabertooth that I still use as my W7 Game/Architectural program rig. My daily driver is an A10 7860k - Ubuntu OS. Almost upgraded last year, and when I ordered the parts, the mobo was months out, so I sent the DDR4 and Ryzen CPU back. This one is still chugging along just fine for all office/internet/home media tasks anyawys, just wanted something new I guess. I pumped that $ into a couple of NVME SSDs and it was a nice upgrade. Browsing folders with thousand of files , the thumb appears pretty much instantly- music etc browsing is smooth as butter.
