DOOM is one of the few games I play when I have free time. I played DOOM 2016 just fine but DOOM Eternal on Steam will not load for me at all. I have 16 minutes play time without seeing the title screen at all. I can play GTA V and other such games on Steam just fine but DOOM Eternal won't even load.

What do I need to upgrade on my PC to play it?

Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor 3.20 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Motherboard ASUS M5A97 R2.0

The external SSD drives are actually faster now than many internal drives and they are cheap, get 4TB and that will be all you ever need..

That GTX 750 TI, is it loud?

It's not loud that I've noticed, but my case does a pretty good job of dampening sound. I've had this build for 5+ years so I am probably behind the times.

Id Software engines tend to use a lot of texture streaming so an SSD or other high speed storage will help, but most importantly you need a newer graphics card.

I don't think I saw a loading screen except when loading a save or dying. Played for a couple of hours today the free version on Game Pass.

I thought SSDs were a given at this point. I mean for your TBs of porn or movies or whatever you collect maybe not. But I haven't used one for games in years. I just uninstall the stuff I don't play regularly.

SSD or Spinner?

SSD for the operating system but I moved all my Steam games to a regular HDD

That would be a logical upgrade to start with. Not saying it is THE issue, but if you are having bad load times it will certainly help. FWIW: Try a NVME one on an adapter in a spare PCIe slot - providing you have one. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you, I will check that out. What I don't get is that I moved all my games to the HDD well over a year ago and haven't had any issues. I have played a few games since then, it's just this one game that is troublesome. It opens like it wants to run but immediately quits. I have never once seen the title screen or anything for this game. It's very odd.

I have a i52500K at 3.2 and a GTX960 with SSD. 16G of mem. Doom Eternal did not run well for me. Probably the graphics card.

That's what I was worried about but wanted to get more opinions on it. It sucks that video cards are stupid expensive right now.

I should have upgraded around 4 or 5 months ago right before the CPUs were being bought out but I was waiting for 3XXX series cards. Whatever. Fuck doom. Currently playing: Noita.

DOOM is fun for what it is. Noita looks nuts and vaguely reminds me of Lode Runner. I've been trying out Ori and the Blind Forest
