I currently have a gtx 1080.

I'm looking at upgrading to a 2080ti or maybe even a 3090 as the 3090s are just a few hundred more than the 2080 and is a biiiiiiig performance jump up according to the shit I've been watching.

Is it worth it? the 1080 is becoming obsolete. I have a 4k monitor but play my games at 1440p because the 1080 (as well as just about anything else except maybe the 3090, but even it can't get 60fps doing 4k on maxed out settings for these high-end games I want to play. But at 1440p the 3090 or maybe even the 2080 or 2080ti would be enough.

Or is there an AMD option that is much better than the 1080 but cheaper than the Nvidia options? I don't know shit about AMD cards.

The 3090 is 2900 bucks dude. I mean if you actually want one now. I'd wait. Get a used 2xxx from someone who upgraded.

I actually just got a 3080 laptop, and I'm pissed. It's not capable of playing most games in 4K but I have a 4K panel. I'm debating whether to return it. Which I can do for like 12 more days.

You can find them for like 2200 i think

Still. I mean it's your money. I edited my story above, but i'm a laptop gamer.

Nah I think I'll wait until I can get a 2080ti or something for a reasonable price. The price gouging is ridiculous. I'm usually a generation or two behind whatever the newest thing is anyways. I was using a gtx 670 and 780 for the longest time.

Yeah, the laptop versions of gpus are never as good as they claim to be. I would keep it though and just play my games at 1440. Even the 3090 can't get 60fps at 4k max settings on a lot of games.

I might. However, I can return it for no money to me (I think) and replace it with a 1440 native laptop with a 3080. Those are scarce right now, but I can wait and use my two years old model. I've also thought about trying the eGPU thing with said older laptop. If u know anything let me know.

Oooo that's a good idea. 4k is overrated anyways.
