I currently have a gtx 1080.

I'm looking at upgrading to a 2080ti or maybe even a 3090 as the 3090s are just a few hundred more than the 2080 and is a biiiiiiig performance jump up according to the shit I've been watching.

Is it worth it? the 1080 is becoming obsolete. I have a 4k monitor but play my games at 1440p because the 1080 (as well as just about anything else except maybe the 3090, but even it can't get 60fps doing 4k on maxed out settings for these high-end games I want to play. But at 1440p the 3090 or maybe even the 2080 or 2080ti would be enough.

Or is there an AMD option that is much better than the 1080 but cheaper than the Nvidia options? I don't know shit about AMD cards.

1080 is a good card and it's a shit time to upgrade given the constricted market. 3070 ($680) is going for almost $2k, I don't know where you're shopping but that's what it looks like here.

Alternatively, I would broaden your horizons on the monitor. If you can't see the pixels, it's wasted processing power. Use to calculate a display that matches your viewing distance and needed screen real estate. Personally, if I got a 4k display it would be about 40" 16:9. I sit about 30 inches away from my monitor when I game. I like about 110 PPI. I can't notice a difference beyond that resolution wise. If you're playing at 4k 60fps on a 24" monitor, I'd rethink your priorities.

I've been using a 3440 x 1440 34" 60fps monitor with a 1070 for years and I haven't felt the need to upgrade until I played Horizon Zero Dawn. If I upgrade, I think I'd aim for a 144hz HDR 21:9 monitor rather than 4k. If you edit 4k video or something, disregard this advice.

It's a 4k 16:9 60hz monitor. Nothing special. I set all my games at 1440p though because 4k is often too demanding. I should have been smarter when buying the monitor and got a 1440 120hz monitor.

What's the size and how far do you sit from it?
