I played a bit of Rune Factory. It was okish but it got muddied with all the different crap they tried to pull off at once. Hopefully #5 will have tightened up the gameplay. I enjoyed harvest moon games back in the day and enjoyed stardew valley for as long as that lasted. I might give it a shot.
I sincerely hope this takes off and gets the recognition it deserves in the West. I understand where you’re coming from in terms of the game trying to accomplish tons of things at once, but it’s that sort of thing that adds to its charm, imho.
Sort of like the Elder Scrolls series trying to have the best magic, the best combat, the best writing, the best player autonomy, etc. only to end up just being OK all around.
As good as the game is I hope it does not take off in the west because that is often when it gets co-opted. The series has a good amount of charm and personality in it, it would be a shame if that was lobotomized.
