I just realized that Free 2 Play is the most secure way against piracy. You simply don't need to pirate a game that is already free. Those who want to pay can always purchase in game gears to look cooler than free players. F2P is the most democratic way to play.

Free to Play is cool as long as it's not Pay to Win. The devs of F2P games with non-cosmetic purchases should die a slow death.

You mean “online only,” because it’s not just free (with microtransaction and datamining) games that beat piracy.

in F2P you get over run by Chinese simps who will literally hand over thousands every month for e-peen

Piracy cannot beat online gaming because online gaming provides a service that piracy cannot adequately compete with: online functionality and multiplayer.

The rare instances where we have seen free-to-play/online games being pirated included online games that were either structured terribly or shut down to the point where it compelled a group of people to start their own private servers.

I can think of Warcraft which did this and a few other older online games like Halo, Ragnarok Online, Phantasy Star Online.

I would argue it is not as prominent these days since it is not as easy to get off the ground or cheap to maintain and since they are creating services that siphon money from companies then it would expectedly shut down.

The Halo CE online lan party days.

What a ride.

Plenty of people are still playing it today. All you need is a CD key which can be found easily online and the game's installer.
