I have a lot of extra stuff in my logistics network. I use buffer chests to pass stuff to the network for building. I want to use buffer chests further away as well. The problem is if I put a buffer or requestor chest at the beginning of the production line so extra stuff goes back on I can't use provider chests at the end. My more distant buffer chests would work but it would make a loop. So my buffers aren't buffering. What do?

I have loads of both. I have roboports all the way out there and my robot construction lines run straight to a roboport. I have 140k construction robots in service. But the flight time is loooong, even with all but the white tech completed.

I read through most of the comments and while this is less of an answer towards the bots issue here is what I ended up doing for long distance construction.

I used Trains, I had requester chests fill filtered train wagons at the Mall(central construction factory) ,12 item types per wagon to make sure nothing got stuck on inserters and as many wagons or multiple Trains to cover every item I wanted automated.

The logistic system can send signals based on its active requests, so if construction bots are looking for 30 yellow belts that signal can be sent to a filter inserter to grab yellow belts off the wagon. The train station can also be set with signals to only be active when there are requests and the Trains can be smart and leave when they run out of any item.

I used this to automate the construction and resupply of my outer ring of walls and auto expand them, while their roboports were cut off from my production area so bots wont spend half an hour trying to fly 2-3 stone walls at a time.

Can I have your map?

I would if I still had it, that was some many months ago sorry.

Here is a small trick for the signals I used then, I had constant combinators with set amounts for my ammo/walls/mines counts IE 200 Walls on it, and then I used another combinator to multiply the amount in storage by *-1, then I "added" the positive "Max 200" to the inverted current count and the result would be a positive number of how much storage was missing and the inserters would pull that much out.

In practice if I wanted a set amount of 200 Walls/Ammo there across their buffer chests and the logi system only had 163, the end signal the Train station would see was 37 Walls and I had it set to be open if any request was over 0, and the filter inserters would take those signals that were not zero, rather than them trying to pull 200 walls themselves.

For construction itself the filters can just be fed the requests from the Roboports themselves.
