India still has arranged marriage. I can tell you that it's a disaster

But modern TV tells me that arranged Indian marriage is the way!

There was a show called Royal Pains, about a rich German dying of a disease hiring a private Jewish doctor, who had been fired from a hospital for killing a patient, to save him. Much of the plot centers around this doctor being screwed over by his money-grubbing nebbish brother, and their adventures in judaism.

Anyhow, a subplot is that the doctor hires an Indian assistant and she is supposed to be in an arranged marriage to a respectable (I guess) Indian man, but she fights it. This leads to her becoming a turbo-whore and even having a fling marriage with some Latin American stud, resulting in a de facto bastard son being born.

Ultimately, after literal years of dissatisfaction, she decides that her parents were right and she marries the arranged Indian dude. Probably the only wholesome thing about the show.

of course it depends on the parents, but not all the parents are smart enough, especially when they are poor, or blinded by caste, religion nonsenses. In India, many jain gujaratis don't want their children marry from another group. So they push their children to marry only jain gujaratis. Since the jain gujarati population is somewhat low, it can be tough to find a partner, especially if their children are not that desirable by the group. I am not saying arranged marriages are always bad, but it can lead to a disaster as nowadays women are more independent. They have a different mindset than village women. They can make reckless decisions thinking it breaks their chains, but it eventually leads them to their demise. Not all the guys are same. Some guys won't accept a girl back once she left him.
