Most responses in recent years there are chock full of people flaming the threads. Very few comments get removed when reported as well. I mean there are clearly people going into threads, changing the topic, whining, bitching, filling it with low-information comments.

Steam has a policy that they remove negative reviews from games due to "vote bombing" (??) (advertisement money)

I have some negative reviews up there and they're not removed. Although I think one of them has been removed because i swear i posted it on there, and now i don't see it

Each forum is modded by the owner/publishers of the game which the forum is attached too, with little actions done by valve. So it's either a wild west, or an over reaching faggot fest. Also, there are no limits against the mods power, even when following every rule to the letter, a publisher was still able to ban me from their forums, and valve all but shrugged their shoulders and told me to fuck myself when I complained.

Never thought it would be on that level, but now I think you're right. Even some mild criticism gets lots of flack there and it's probably shills gatekeeping. Had some experience there with some timid shit but they overplayed their hands with how hard they hit back.

What, like the strategy threads?

anything criticizing a game definitely catches flak and not even a little. the bizarre shit that people say in those threads to try and derail it... actually I don't even think someone them are trying to derail it - they're simply grossly misinterpreting the meaning of the thread.

I see, yeah, could be some disinfo. I'm sure devs go in and sort of defend their games, perhaps by attacking critics.

So basically like the old days of the internet. Horseshoe theory: Overregulation and underregulation of speech leads to the same outcome.

The problem with both circumstances is they take place in centralized, crowded forums. Solution: find a more niche place to discuss gaming. Here might work since the community is small and most of us agree how much of a pain in the ass mainstream communication spaces are.

Side note: It is fitting to see the steam forums observe the same level of care and moderation as the steam platform these days.
