I play a few PS4 games with my 4 year old, there is a Paw Patrol one and an Ugly Dolls one that he likes.
However, at some point soon I'll probably get an old WiiU and put homebrew on it, download n64, GameCube, she's & nes rom libraries and start him on some of the classics (without paying for old carts)

You should play Little Big Planet with him sometime.
I have Little Big Planet 3 and have played with him! It's a little too advanced for him, o think 2 more years he will be all over it though. Thanks for the suggestion. Another favorite for a 4 year old is swinging around the city in spiderman before you engage the first enemy checkpoint in the game, because there is literally no fighting until that point
Ah! I'd 1000% also suggest Toontown Rewritten or Toontown Corporate Clash. It's free and can be run on a toaster or any old computer.
You make your own toon and fight with pies and joke items to take down evil robots who have no sense of humor. You can have a party up to 4 players. It was my FAVORITE game as a child. Game play is plenty simple enough for any kid to be able to do. Plot is simple - bringing joy and laughter to the world.
