Really, it would be for me and a 5-year old. Nothing too complicated. Thinking Nintendo Wii.

But I have not played a video game since like Atari 2600.

Advice?

Nintendo Switch. Play it with two people without having to buy an extra controller. Hell, play it with two people wherever you want without needing a screen to plug it into. Play it at home on the TV. Mario Kart, Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy or Odyssey. Legend of Zelda. Super Smash Brothers. Mario Party. What else do you need besides that?

I play a few PS4 games with my 4 year old, there is a Paw Patrol one and an Ugly Dolls one that he likes.

However, at some point soon I'll probably get an old WiiU and put homebrew on it, download n64, GameCube, she's & nes rom libraries and start him on some of the classics (without paying for old carts)

You should play Little Big Planet with him sometime.

I have Little Big Planet 3 and have played with him! It's a little too advanced for him, o think 2 more years he will be all over it though. Thanks for the suggestion. Another favorite for a 4 year old is swinging around the city in spiderman before you engage the first enemy checkpoint in the game, because there is literally no fighting until that point
