It's the future because a server farm can provide a game environment infinitely greater than any console or gaming rig, and with zero latency per player, and zero possibility of cheating, while serving it on any platform including a shitty tablet or smartphone.

The only downside is the latency between button press and screen, but this will soon disappear as technology progresses.

This is retarded. Even if the entire internet was nothing but fiber optics there would be too much input lag for cloud gaming to be decent. You can't go faster than the speed of light and light isn't fast enough for low latency gaming over large distances through optical cables. Not to mention all the copper and processing that has to be done between two points.

The irony is that years ago there was already a competent service called Onlive and it was better than stadia in every possible metric. Now that more people have access to greater internet performance, they were met with Stadia which sought to undermine everything that gave Onlive potential.

As convenient as your argument is, it remains rooted in the idea that we never physically own anything we buy anymore and much like Onlive, anything that you have purchased disappears when the company dies off.

haven't even clicked the article yet, but I'm guessing this article is preemptively it's dead, in a publicity stunt, and it's definitely not dead yet. if so, you people need to stop even saying the words that relate to this brand until it's actually dead.

update:

yep, first paragraph even seems to have anticipated my response to your post, and anticipated the following trickery would be used against anyone who reads the first paragraph and no further.

Google has shuttered its internet game development studio, the company has announced, and is all but abandoning the idea that Stadia, its groundbreaking streaming service, could be a top-tier competitor to traditional games consoles.

Not even going to say what's wrong with that; I'll leave it to people's reading ability and comprehension to figure it out.

Reading on...

God.... exactly what I predicted this article was doing it is doing, and google is doing exactly what I thought they'd do. You people need to stop checking the internet every hour for "news" to get that dopamine hit - this is not the sensation you thought it would be. In fact, I didn't even know, nor have I heard anyone even mention that Google was trying to develop video games.... just stop spreading anything with keywords that you don't like. Said it before and I'll say it again, you people are giving the things you hate a platform it could never have on its own by posting them on websites like this.
