Amazon thinks of gaming in the same way they think of every other commodity they sell. You use it and then throw it away. But that's not how this market works, people get invested in a game and it has to be worth investing in.

HEART and SOUL takes WORK (in ANYTHING). Craftsmanship. Not easy to define, but you KNOW when that love of QUALITY is THERE.

you KNOW when that love of QUALITY is THERE.

I feel this when I play older games, but definitely not new games. And holy fucking shit the ass's creed series looks like the company thinks they found an unlimited money formula and keep pumping out the same trash. CoD is the same thing, I have not been interested in that series since the one and only CoD game I played; CoD 4 MW1, and that game didn't strike me as having love and quality in it, that was about 2007

Me too. Those guys LOVED what they were doing. Went the extra MILES and miles, till they found out THEY didn't SHARE in the PROFITS. I got suckered similarly too when I was young (sued for $10 of millions of my patents).

what is interesting is that i'm playing gta 5 right now and this seems like a newer game, but it was made in 2013....

a few people online have observed the same thing I have in that there appeared to be some noticeable drop off in game quality in 2004, then another huge dip in 2007 (i would go as far as saying there was nearly a decade of shit games for sure from 2007 to 2017 - i sure as fuck wasn't tempted to play any games in that time, and i didn't after I'd finished diablo 2, tf2 aoe2, killing floor, DNF, and pretty much anything else made before those years) and I returned to gaming probably a year or 2 ago to see the absolute shiiiiiit that had been produced while I was gone:

top 10 lists of roguelikes are nearly all shit - the fucking binding of isaac is a shit tier game and it's on the top of these game lists. Nuclear throne is decent until you try cheats and you realize that even if you have the best gun in the game, winning each level turns into a straight up dice roll, so skill appears to have even less to do with the game than the player originally thought.

Half of the FPSes on these lists all feel the same and completely uninspired - hard pass on all that shit; I tried doom eternal though and it's a 5.7/10 I think, and it's definitely not a doom game.

I wanted to play some resident evil and i found code veronica on the top of a bunch of lists and that game is a 2/10 dumpster fire; do not play; nothing but key hunting and wasting the fuck out of the player's time wandering the map (it gets sooooo boring), and the creatures are stupid as well as the story, game play and characters - it's just a trash video game.

dark souls is another trash video game that wastes the player's time, the game mechanics are a prime example of clunky and what not to put in a video game, the story is nonexistent, atmosphere is ok (but I'm really stretching here for nice things to say), it's a walking sim with soooo much filler "atmosphere" to the point where it's just wasting the player's time, and nearly all of the boss fights are "do you know about zero point errors bro?". trash.

hardy any RTSes have come out. Iron harvest was good. i went back to play WC3, but I haven't finished it yet. been meaning to start star craft as well.

rdr2 is a massively overhyped video game that is not worth playing for free or even if someone paid you a dollar an hour to play it.

there isn't much out there it seems except old stuff, and, admittedly when I try something that people hyped up and i hate it, i'm even harder on it, like dark souls and rdr2 and BOI - fucking hate all three of those games. Amazing that such large swaths of people online can be wrong about something - that did not happen back in the day. if people said a game was good, everyone thought it was good; people had their genre preferences, but that was about it
