Why are (videogame) critics even a thing? "Oh, this person works as a 'journalist', therefore I should care about their opinion".

I agree completely - I kind of wish I had at some point been a consumer of their horse shit, so I could have withdrawn my support back in the GG days.

from nes to n64, games journalism was great. it was all love for gaming, detailed walkthroughs, tips. the one I read, Tips&Tricks mag, had a funny trash talk section for disses. If a game was bad they had legit concerns with the gameplay.

went solidly downhill afterwards and turned into a pc hellhole of worthless opinions from useless people who bitch about games being too hard, bitch about there being attractive characters, bitch about simulated violence in games. pc culture ruins everything good.

The good old magazine days oh god how i miss them. And the demos!

The only skill critics must have is to be well versed in use of complicated words in writing.

Not really. Have you not seen how very nearly illiterate some of them are, while they try to sound smugly superior? It's almost funny.

I quit reading critics years ago. Anyway, they used to be quite articulate in spouting their bullshit.
