This seems to be what happened/is happening to the Sci-Fi/Fantasy fandom. 25 years ago, going to a convention was a party, you'd see women in wench costumes and men in armor, and everyone had a good time because it was Fantasy. Last few I attended, it seemed that stuff was starting to get suppressed in favor of muh privilege, and it just wasn't fun anymore.

Conventions of all kinds got taken over. PAX went from banning booth babes to having panels on diversity bullshit. It was fairly alarming how fast the change went.

You're right, it was quite dizzying how fast stuff changed. Last one I attended was about 5 years ago, it was rather boring, and they didn't run the next year due to declining attendance. A 50 year-old event closed due to Whiny Wendy being unable to accept that some people like to dress up in medieval garb for a weekend and drink themselves stupid.
