I'll check out the video link.
This game seems like a side project from rockstar.... regardless of the graphical production value - the overall experience makes it seem like a side project. I guess when one visits a big city, and they see all the fuck-around behavior it really is just that: a fuck around place where nothing productive is getting done.
think about it, they supposedly have these billions of dollars coming in, and with the over zealous hype about crunch and all that you'd think they're some powerhouse of productivity, but where's the good stuff?? what else did rockstar put out during this time??? where's the blockbuster game?? because rdr2 isn't it
I'd have to partly disagree. There's definitely a lot going on besides just graphics in the game. There's tons of side objectives to do, such as hunting, playing cards, drinking, watching shows. And there's also a bunch of side content as well. I'll give them credit where it's due. They're very good at crafting open world games, so even if this may or may not be a side project, they completely nailed that aspect. And can you elaborate on what you mean by "nothing productive getting done?"
all that side stuff looks recycled though. and you can get a better version of it in older games for a cheaper price.
nothing productive getting done as in i don't think this game is built out enough for a quality overall experience. why aren't new game genres happening if there's so much innovation at these companies in big cities?
i recall all this talk about the details of the game like "the horse's balls shrink in the cold" which implied that they'd taken care of all the bigger details before they got that far... i'm not a graphics guy, but i see graphics problems all over: sometimes the horse's mane will freeze in the hair while riding the horse, there are random light sources flickering through large portions of buildings, the game will ramp up the processing when i'm looking at a catalog in a store, etc
Back on the overall game play, I don't have a problem with reusing old game play mechanics, but they didn't stitch this game together well at all. It's not flowing properly from action to action, the controls compound this issue to extremely irritating levels (also the menu system), some of the missions seem tacked on (i just did a bar fight mission and i have no idea how javier when from the camp to town when I didn't complete his first mission, also he wasn't even in the camp earlier when his marker was there), i can't tell whether some of the speech in the cinematics are telling me about game mechanics or if they're doing "cinematic stuff" that doesn't occur or matter in-game, i could go on and on, but no matter what this game is not going to get above an average rating for me.
