The mechanics of the game are not clear, and there will be random transitions into fights or whatever. Blah!

The information is scattered all over the place which is simply bad design.

The menus are poorly labeled with random crap in some of them... cannot tell whether this is intentional or not - but, in any event, why is it like this?

I'm kind of sitting on a 4.5/10 for this game. Not terrible, but definitely not a good game, and not worth 60 effing dollars.

Update:

I see bing has some ranking system it displays in it's search results when you and . Seems about right.

This game seems like a side project from rockstar.... regardless of the graphical production value - the overall experience makes it seem like a side project. I guess when one visits a big city, and they see all the fuck-around behavior it really is just that: a fuck around place where nothing productive is getting done.

think about it, they supposedly have these billions of dollars coming in, and with the over zealous hype about crunch and all that you'd think they're some powerhouse of productivity, but where's the good stuff?? what else did rockstar put out during this time??? where's the blockbuster game?? because rdr2 isn't it

About the story, what's with all the coloreds in the game? the game is starting to look more like a modern LARP than an RPG or open world game with this modern portrayal of ethnic Americans and coloreds, especially the african black. There would be the domination of ethnica Americans over africans still portrayed here, and it's looking like a "we're all a happy melting pot of communist and marxist equality ".

its average at best. its just another movie game with woke shit sprinkled through it pretending to be an amazing action game.

[–] 2 pts

exactly.

what's with all the coloreds in the game? especially africans (america's favorite colored people).

i don't think this is historically accurate, especially the way in which they're interacted with

[–] 1 pt

That and all the "hype" came from the media. I never once had word of mouth tell me it's such an amazing game, just bullshit ad's fucking everywhere pushing it. Just look at how hard the critics loved The Last of Us 2.

[–] 0 pt

my buddy let my borrow it. i got out of the snow and then did like 5 missions. forgot about it for a month or so and tried to give it back "just keep it, im never going to play it" i remember south park had a couple episodes shilling for it and couldnt figure out if they were just referencing a popular current event or if they actually though it was that good. guess i know now.

I mostly agree. The first Red Dead was amazing and I could not stop playing. The plot was very clear.

In RDR2 the plot is not as clear, the characters are somewhat cardboard, and the game just doesn't flow well. I played it for about a week and then set it aside and haven't looked at it again.

I played it for about a week and then set it aside and haven't looked at it again.

This is what I did a month ago when i first started the game. Honestly, I didn't know why, but I didn't want to start playing it again. Now I know why: my subconscious already knew what was coming.

The extremely long tutorial/intro sequence is what kills it for me.

[–] 2 pts

I barely noticed that I was doing a tutorial and that seemed fine to me, however they need to ALWAYS display the control options when something is available to do, since there are so many different things one can do. I forget what can be done all the time, and, again, with the mechanics of hwo shit works in the game - they're simply not done well enough. And to think about all the crunch and effort and hours that supposedly went into this game.

People have bene friggin' talking up with game since november 2019 when it came out! I just got it and I was hyped as can be to start it, and it's not only not good, but it's irritating to play this game!! Back to flash games and 90s/early 00s games for me.

[–] 1 pt

i thin the real hype was that it is a fun platform to play with other people on and mess around. i would guess you have only been doing single player

[–] 1 pt (edited )

yes, only single player. i'm reading that the online is not good though on meta critic https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/red-dead-redemption-2/user-reviews?page=4

the game has a 5.8 /10 on there, which seems about right.

this game seems like the development was:

  1. make HIFI graphics & smooth animations

  2. *dust hands off *

  3. ???

  4. profit

[–] 1 pt

the only line play with randoms is shit. the most fun to be had is fucking around with your friends who you know. doing silly shit and trolling each and stuff. you have to make your own fun, its just a good platform to do that.

I'm all for playing multiplayer with friends!!1

i have never wanted to play video games online.

My friend, who i was discussing rdr2 in the context of GTA5 the other day, was talking about playing gta5 online (which he has done for years), and I was thinking that I'd like to play with him but only if he enters my SINGLE PLAYER game (which then makes it multiplayer). I don't want some online lobby, i don't want my friends easily tempted into "going online", i want a sealed off me and my friends only type thing.

and i want splitscreen gaming back for god's sake!

Yeah when I first played it I stopped for a whole month before I got back into it to finish the story. The first 4 chapters are just so tedious. Things kind of pick up at the end of the 4th chapter and get pretty good after that. Too bad the gameplay is a downgrade from the previous title. It's like they went for immersion and sacrificed some of the fun aspects in the process. Besides that, there's tons of propaganda, some subtle and some not so subtle. The absolute worst was the stupid bit in the game where you have to escort a bunch of suffragette cunts to their protesting spot, and you couldn't even attack any of them either. For an in depth look into all the subversive bullshit, I highly recommend this video by American Krogan (long but worth a watch/listen): https://www.bitchute.com/video/5opFTQmh3cZ3/

[–] 1 pt

That suffragette mission was the last straw for me, after the cut scene I dropped the game. I had such high hopes

[–] 1 pt

Fun fact, the actually Suffragette movement didn't start till TEN YEARS AFTER when Red Dead Redemption 2 was set historically. Rockstar put in social politics where it didn't belong again.

[–] 1 pt

The old Rockstar used to TRY to offend people

[–] 1 pt

Nah, the worst part was having to kill the good old white man in order to save a criminal nigger. Almost trashed the game at that point.

I'll check out the video link.

I'd have to partly disagree. There's definitely a lot going on besides just graphics in the game. There's tons of side objectives to do, such as hunting, playing cards, drinking, watching shows. And there's also a bunch of side content as well. I'll give them credit where it's due. They're very good at crafting open world games, so even if this may or may not be a side project, they completely nailed that aspect. And can you elaborate on what you mean by "nothing productive getting done?"

[–] 1 pt

all that side stuff looks recycled though. and you can get a better version of it in older games for a cheaper price.

nothing productive getting done as in i don't think this game is built out enough for a quality overall experience. why aren't new game genres happening if there's so much innovation at these companies in big cities?

i recall all this talk about the details of the game like "the horse's balls shrink in the cold" which implied that they'd taken care of all the bigger details before they got that far... i'm not a graphics guy, but i see graphics problems all over: sometimes the horse's mane will freeze in the hair while riding the horse, there are random light sources flickering through large portions of buildings, the game will ramp up the processing when i'm looking at a catalog in a store, etc

Back on the overall game play, I don't have a problem with reusing old game play mechanics, but they didn't stitch this game together well at all. It's not flowing properly from action to action, the controls compound this issue to extremely irritating levels (also the menu system), some of the missions seem tacked on (i just did a bar fight mission and i have no idea how javier when from the camp to town when I didn't complete his first mission, also he wasn't even in the camp earlier when his marker was there), i can't tell whether some of the speech in the cinematics are telling me about game mechanics or if they're doing "cinematic stuff" that doesn't occur or matter in-game, i could go on and on, but no matter what this game is not going to get above an average rating for me.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks guys, you've just saved me 500 bucks on a gpu upgrade. I'll buy bitcoin instead.

[–] 1 pt

yeah, you aren't miss a damn thing here. save you rmoney

[–] 1 pt

There is literally no motivation to complete any missions in rdr2. Iv got like 20-25 hours in, and barely any storyline completed because its just so fucking boring.

[–] 1 pt

It is boring, you've got that right. There's nothing interesting happening, and for the longest time i didn't evne know how to start missions or check a mission log or what in the fuck was going on. I was just wandering around the world getting pissed off. lol. really tho

[–] 1 pt

Show me a better game where I can drag an endless supply of niggers and feminists, from horseback, to be fed to the gators, and I'll rate that one 10/10.

Irl doesn't count, yet...

[–] 0 pt

I haven't seen this yet. This will earn it points.

As a note, the game loses points at the same time because feminism didn't exist back then.

It just so happened that as I was typing this the negro in the camp (that would never be with us in a scenario like this) is telling a story about being a slave in the context of the year 2020... these modern video games are messing up the history books. I'm wondering how much the assassin's creed games have done this. I knoooooow they'd absolutely love to rewrite the french revolution

It has the same issue as its predecessor for me and that's the horse riding, I find it boring. If I could travel the map in a Subaru Impreza the game would be vastly improved for this gamer.

I think they're going to stick with the Red Dead games for the same reason CD Projekt Red are trying to launch Cyberpunk - it's bad business sense for a studio to have only one franchise.

When it comes to GTA - does anyone have any preferences for the setting of the next game? I want either a Miami revisit or get experimental and move it to Sap Paulo. Remember Max Payne - a GTA in that environment with favelas etc. It would be great.

[–] 1 pt

I'm told GTA5 has issues just like RDR2 in that the controls are shitty and the plot doesn't really land.... I haven't played it or watched videos online, but I saw a buddy play a bit, and it wasn't enough to tell. My mind will be absolutely blown if that is true though, since that game has made more money than any piece of media ever.

GTA 5 is in my opinion the best game of the generation, there's hundreds of houiof fun in there, both in the campaign world and the multiplayer. If you've played and enjoyed any of the previous GTA games you would have a blast, it's a good iteration on the previous games.

If you're buddy has the same system as you I could recommend picking it up and asking him to play it with you in multiplayer (after you've played the solo campaign). It is great fun and far better than RDR2 imo.

[–] 0 pt

Played it on a PS and hated it put it down and forgot about it. Got it on sale for PC and once I got through the awkward mechanics and delayed reaction due to cpu heavy graphics engine it got better and better and then epic. The RDR2 online portion is horrible and unplayable.

[–] 0 pt

I remember enjoying the first one when it came out. When the lockdowns started I bought a PS4 + this game and couldn't get in to it. After playing it for a couple of hours I grew bored and frustrated and never played it again.

[–] 2 pts

I spent 6 hours yesterday trying to figure out how to auto follow in missions. you can't.

but the internet doesn't seem to know that, and there are tons of posts explaining to people how to auto follow in missions. You can set up auto follow after setting a marker on the map, but i wasn't trying to do that, and no one made these distinctions clear anywhere on the internet.

seriously.... what have gamers been doing that past 10 years that I ahve not been gaming? a 10 year hiatus and I come back to this trash? this is trash for 10 years down the road. having been in the software dev industry, i can tell you this probably has everything to do with diversity hiring of coloreds and women, typically creating a toxic management atmosphere

[–] 1 pt

There's a lot sub par shit being released, it seems. I haven't been playing much over the past few years, but I had some time over the holidays and decided to give Borderlands 3 a shot. While it CAN be fun, it is also very annoying.

All the main characters are 'muh stonk wamans', the map designs can be tedious to navigate, and the writing is embarrassingly bad.

Visually it looks pretty good and the gun fights can be crazy, but the same can be said for the first one. It's like they took a good thing, handed it over to 'muh diversity', and added a layer of shit over the top of it.

[–] 1 pt

My friend who was overjoyed to get borderlands 3 said he had to mute the audio while playing in order to keep himself playing.

do you have any specific examples to share? i'd love to hear them, as I haven't played it myself
