The memes came forth because the idea of making them became popular. There was a void. People filled it and no longer feel like they need much more. More memes will come when others feel the need again such as when they find a new thing they like. This is the more normal way that happened before the word memes was even a public thing. That aside you shouldnt expect expression of creativity from a stressed out and hostile population in a censorship and petty outrage obsessed world.
