I think sometimes people forget that the world of The Witcher was already well fleshed-out in the books by a good writer. CDPR simply adapted existing content to a video game. Turns out, when they try to make their own original idea, it's a flop.
Wasn't Cyberpunk the same strategy? They took that black guy's idea and ran with it? Except this time they bit off more than they could chew, I also remember reading that TW3 DLC was just cut content they finished after release, which would indicate that they never learn.
It's a very VERY shallow adaptation of his pen-and-paper RPG, they used maybe 5% of the source material. I want to say they initially planned to have it be closer to the original, more in-depth, but slashed a whole bunch of shit over the past 2 or 3 years.
I feel like they should have just done something like XCOM on roids and spared everyone this gta clone. The teaser gave me those turn-based vibes, which would have been fine.
