My Index headset arrived Friday. The Half-Life Alyx preview content is an amazing environment. Sure it looked cool on YouTube videos, but when I was actually immersed into it, it is a whole new level.

"The Lab" which is pretty much a fun lobby area that lets you access mini-games is a total blast too. The space ship and bow games are so much fun.

I tried Pavlov and seems like it would be fun, but I ended up getting a refund. I could not play it without terrible motion sickness. I'm afraid I might have that problem with games that have you walk vs teleport.

One downside with the Index is the controllers are not wireless. I did not realize this when I bought it. It is still playable of course, but it would be much better if you didn't have to worry about the wires. The headset, which I knew going in was wired, is not an issue. I don't notice that wire at all.

Has anyone tried the Google cardboard headset?

Not Cardboard spefically, but I bought one or two of the plastic, phone VR headsets to try out a few years back. They were pretty fun to play around with considering they were just things like: ride a roller coaster, experience this scary scene, etc. It's not the same as gaming with one, though. I think that's what the Oculus Quest is supposed to be - standalone with motion controller support.
