My Index headset arrived Friday. The Half-Life Alyx preview content is an amazing environment. Sure it looked cool on YouTube videos, but when I was actually immersed into it, it is a whole new level.

"The Lab" which is pretty much a fun lobby area that lets you access mini-games is a total blast too. The space ship and bow games are so much fun.

I tried Pavlov and seems like it would be fun, but I ended up getting a refund. I could not play it without terrible motion sickness. I'm afraid I might have that problem with games that have you walk vs teleport.

One downside with the Index is the controllers are not wireless. I did not realize this when I bought it. It is still playable of course, but it would be much better if you didn't have to worry about the wires. The headset, which I knew going in was wired, is not an issue. I don't notice that wire at all.

Has anyone tried the Google cardboard headset?

Not Cardboard spefically, but I bought one or two of the plastic, phone VR headsets to try out a few years back. They were pretty fun to play around with considering they were just things like: ride a roller coaster, experience this scary scene, etc. It's not the same as gaming with one, though. I think that's what the Oculus Quest is supposed to be - standalone with motion controller support.

Boneworks is supposed to be the benchmark VR game right now. Never played it. Dead Effect 2 I thought was a pretty well done VR port.

That does look cool. Although I'm a bit worried I might have the same motion sickness problem with that game. I'll have to look into Dead Effect 2. I'm not familiar with that title.

I'm probably not going to buy many games right now. Since I have Alyx to look forward to. I figure a lot of VR titles will go on sale once Alyx is live.

It does look like a vomit inducing game but it's pretty wild that a game can cause the same mental and physical effects felt from real life experiences. Vertigo from heights is a great example.

Super Hot VR is rather well done too. It's pretty casual and a good game to demo vr to other people.

Super Hot looks like it might be a better format for me. That was one I was thinking of getting.

I've been enjoying my PSVR. Specifically No Mans Sky in VR. I hope to get a pc headset eventually.

I can only red pill NPCs and lift for so long each day.

I was a little underwhelmed by my Index. While it's certainly better than my psvr it's not as big of a step forward as I had hoped. Visually I would say overall it's about a 15% Improvement, however, sadly it still stuffers from more sde than the psvr. I'm very sensitive to screen door effect so this is a big disappointment to me.

From what I've heard the PSVR has one of the best screens in a VR headset. Sure it's only 1080p, but whatever Sony did they nailed it.

It does. It has a OLED RGB screen which has three subpixel per pixel. Most other headsets have pentile displays which means each pixel is just one pixel. In reality psvr actually has a higher pixel count than most other headsets. This is why the psvr has the least amount of screen door effect out of every single headset on the market. They did an excellent job on designing that unit.

I so want a VR headset.

I was hesitant to make such an expensive purchase (figure I spent around 2k upgrading my PC even before the 1k for the Index), but I live very frugal, I have to splurge every once in a while!

I'm not regretting it at all. Highly recommend.

And you can do it cheaper, I just decided if I'm going VR I'm going all in with the top of the line stuff.

Hopefully someday I'll get into it.

You will!

It's amazing how far we have come, my first game system was PONG from Sears! lol... now look at the games!

So get one.

PC not good enough and too expensive.
