I need to start building up my floppy music project. I just have 6 drives split in two channel stereo. Got people to start giving me random floppy drives at my computer nerd club and have a box of them. Need for f2m jumpers and whatnot, also build a box to house everything in.
edit: also the newer floppy drives have softer bump stops and insulated steppers to make them quiet so the older pre 1998 ones are the shit. Took me a while to figure that out.
Chinon and Mitsumi are the shit!
Yeah, the loudest ones I have are Mitsumi 2 in 1 5.25/3.5 from around 1994. You get two addressable steppers in one package. Only have two of them however.
I pretty sure you can find cheap bulks of defective ones (unable to read/write, but with working stepping motors) on eBay.
