Mocking tyrants and authoritarians is incredibly effective. Much more effective than direct violence, which is often counter productive and used as a justification by them for further authoritarian crack downs. They hate being mocked because they want power over you, and if you make fun of them and make them the butt of your jokes, they have no power over you, and everyone can see it.
