Segregation worked both ways, and benefited both Peoples. The blacks had their own movies and their own music and their own nightclubs, and White people were even less welcome on those places than the blacks were in the White places. For example, the White movie houses allowed negroes to sit in the Balcony area on one side. The black movie houses would let a White patron sit anywhere, but that patron would be beaten up before the movie started.
There is a scene in the movie "Animal House" where the college kids accidentally walk into a black nightclub, and the first thing one of them says is "We are going to die." That scene actually represented the attitudes in the early Sixties very accurately.
Plessy v. Ferguson - fuckin'a right.
