There's possibly even another layer to this. Realizing just to what extend her son mirrors her attitude, words, and actions, can make her question why she turned out the way she did. Because she once was a "little mirror", too. And if indeed she is a mirror image of her caregivers, yet is willing to change for the sake of her son, she will end up questioning why her parents were not willing to change for her sake.
