Sure an offspring of a horse and donkey, a mule, is usually sterile, though not always. But this is due to them not having the same amount of chomosomes, the product of their union having an odd number. But Homo Sapiens bred with Neanderthals and Denosovians, presumably having viable offspring, as those DNA types are found in modern human genomes. Additionally Polar Bears and Grizzlies are capable of interbreeding and having stable offspring despite being separate species. Hmm.
