Ted talks had so much potential. Then they became a soap box for leftist political bullshit.

Most topics when taught in college, or any educational program, are generally full of fluff or very densely packed with details. Ted had an amazing ability to cut out the fat and also effectively summarize interesting and complicated topics. It was like talking to an intelligent person about a topic they loved. You could learn so much valuable information about a topic in very little time, without being bored or overwhelmed by minutia.

I sometimes suspect it was purposefully destroyed because it was so effective in teaching.

This is TedX. No where near the same content as regular Ted Talks. Ted Talks are the same as they've always been some are terrible and some are good. It's always been like that, always will be.

Information is only valuable if it's useful. Just because you learn new info doesn't make it good. Ted Talks are for discussing ideas they are not lessons to be learned.

True, but a thinking person in the right position could apply those ideas in a very constructive fashion. It really just depends on if you're in a position to make use of the information.

I tended to read it as giving the air of learning but only if it didn't upset anything important.

My favorite TED presentaiton was (first 3:00, second half is something else). It's lighthearted but also gives something to think about.
