Central Valley has a bad drug and gang problem, but it's in the larger towns like Madera, Modesto etc. The tiny farms towns I have no idea about because the only reason to stop in those is get gas and snacks.

This is accurate. I drove through there to see sequoia and yosemite. Then I left. I saw plenty of drugged out homelessness on the way.
