Remember when the rides at the summer fair could, and sometimes did, kill you?

There was a roller coaster when I was a kid that scared the bejezuz out of me. The structure was rickety and the cars themselves felt like they could leave the track at any moment. On occasion they actually did and people died, at least that was the story we told each other and it pretty much guarenteed that we'd ride it every chance we had.

Like trying to squeeze the last few drops of IQ from a very dry lemon.
