If this was real and not a staged video for social media, then yeah, I agree- he would've been 100% within the right to uppercut that woman until she stopped hitting him.
People may call me a pussy for holding this opinion, but I don't care: Physically striking someone should be considered attempted maiming. Punching someone in the face = attempted murder. We have seen too many instances of grown men, healthy, being KO'ed with a sucker punch or something, they go down and bust their skull, and it's fucking over- all because the killer felt "I'm just punching him, I really want to fuck this guy up but not too badly".
It should be this simple: if someone initiates force upon someone else, that person is now the victim of an attack. The victim should be legally allowed to use as much force as they deem necessary in that moment to end the fight. In a case like this, that might mean "grabbing the hysterical woman's wrists as she tries to slap you, hold her a bit till she calms down". In a case where it's "two men trying to punch another man", if he shoots both of them dead, or stabs one fatally and cuts the other one till he runs off or surrenders- absolutely justified.
The fact that this conversation is still being had in 2022 is fucking horrifying. I learned "keeping your hands to yourself" before I got into kindergarten, but an enormous number of adults don't abide by this basic rule.
